Name withheld is married with three children. He lives with his family at Abakpa, Enugu, Enugu State. He works as a block moulder before his arrest and incarceration. He was accused of defiling a girl of eleven years. The charge against him was that on or about the 25th day of May 2018, at about 6pm, on her way from a bakery where she bought bread, the Defendant grabbed the girl from behind, dragged her to a nearby bush and defiled her. The supposed victim went home and told nobody and her parents did not discover anything amiss about her until after 3 days.
The Defendant was arrested in May 2018 and charged with the offence of unlawful carnal knowledge at the Magistrate Court Enugu East where he was refused bail and remanded in Enugu Maximum Security Custodial Custody. He was subsequently arraigned at the Enugu High Court for the offence of defilement in 2019 when his trial commenced with CAPIO’s legal team representing him. In the course of his trial, the prosecution called five witnesses and the defence called two witnesses.
At the close of trial, counsel for the prosecution and the defence addressed the court and the court adjourned for judgment. After two years of trial, the court on 10th March 2022 gave judgment where the court found the Defendant not guilty and he was then discharged and acquitted.
