ACJL Validation and Radio Program

The Carmelite Prisoners’ Interest Organization (CAPIO) support towards Criminal Justice Reform in Enugu state resulted in her support for virtual court hearing https://bit.ly/3uEU1Vt, the training of gatekeepers https://bit.ly/3D4hYIs and sensitization of the public https://bit.ly/3B4l7Yi on key provisions of the Enugu State Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) as published in the Carmelite Prisoners’ Interest Organization’s Q3 2021 newsletter.
Building on the gains of activities implemented by CAPIO in the 4th quarter of 2021, 20 episodes of CAPIO ACJL half-hour were aired by Radio Nigeria, while the ACJL jingle has been aired twice daily in the past months. Through the above awareness program, CAPIO reached and enlightened the masses on key provisions of the Enugu State Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL). Most importantly, the masses were enlightened on key provisions and amendments in the ongoing review of the Enugu state ACJL.
The Carmelite Prisoners’ Interest Organization (CAPIO), in collaboration with the Enugu State Justice Reform Team (ESJRT) and other stakeholders, have championed the call to amend the Enugu State Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL). In line with the proposed amendment, stakeholders reviewed Enugu state ACJL and pointed out sections needing review.
Having noted some sections in the law, The Carmelite Prisoners’ Interest Organization (CAPIO) in conjunction with Enugu State Justice Reform Team (ESJRT) held a validation workshop on noted provisions of Enugu state Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) which needs to be amended.
Reviews in the law were engaged by Judges, Magistrates, Chief Registrar, Legal representatives of MDAs, and other legal practitioners in attendance.
Following engagement by stakeholders who were present, inputs were welcomed and noted, while the updated document which is in line with recommendations will be submitted to the Enugu State House of Assembly for their action.
CAPIO appreciates partners and stakeholders who have contributed to the Enugu State Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL); most importantly, we appreciate Misean Cara for funding the CAPIO ACJL project.
