CAPIO CENTRE OF HOPE PROJECT
In continuation with the implementation of the Carmelite Prisoners’ Interest Organization (CAPIO) Centre of Hope Project, the construction of Male hostel which is a three-story building with over 100 rooms, was awarded in the first quarter of 2022. As at December 2022, the construction has advanced to the second floor and hopefully before the end of January 2023, the skeleton of the male hostel would have been completed.
When the male hostel is completed, certain components of the centre will be operations.
Currently, the broiler section of the poultry farm in the Centre is fully operational through agricultural grant from Agro-Processing, Productivity Enhancement, and Livelihood
Improvement Support (APPEALS Project), Enugu State and technical support from Sunchi Farm. The farm was initially stocked with 3,000 broilers, and has progressed to stocking two batches of birds concurrently within a short time frame in a bid to retain the livestock market in Oji River, Enugu, Awka and it environ.
Hopefully, in 2023 the layers section of the farm will be stocked and operational.
The piggery section of the CAPIO Centre of Hope is equally operational.
The farm was stocked with 21 growers and winners in August 2022. The piggery section of the farm has recorded significant improvement in the last months, in 2023 we look forward to have more pigs to fill 40 pig pens that are at the Centre.
CAPIO Nigeria appreciates the Episcopal Conference of Italian Bishops of the Catholic Church for their support of the Centre of Hope Building Project.
