CAPIO Introductory Visit to the Honourable Attorney General of Enugu State.
The Carmelite Prisoners’ Interest Organization (CAPIO) paid a courtesy visit to Hon. (Dr) Barr Kingsley Udeh, the Attorney General of Enugu state on the 23rd August 2023. The visit focused on strengthening the Enugu state Ministry of Justice through tackling bottle-necks that delay legal processes in the state. The Honourable Attorney General commended CAPIO for her interventions towards the criminal justice system in Enugu state. He expressed his willingness to work with CAPIO and other institutions towards improving the processes in Enugu State Ministry of Justice. He further promised to improve work ethics and service delivery within the Ministry.
The Executive Director of CAPIO, Rev. Fr. Isiguzo maintained that non-custodial sentencing should be encouraged and embraced as provided under the Enugu State Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL). He therefore informed the Honourable AG of the Centre of Hope project (Halfway Home), which is nearing completion and would serve as a place for rehabilitating and reintegrating ex-inmates (returned citizens), who had served their terms, back to the society.
The Honourable AG appreciated the initiative behind the Centre of Hope project and expressed the interest of the Ministry to partner with CAPIO.
