CAPIO SENSITIZES STUDENTS ON CRIME AND ITS PREVENTION
CAPIO sensitization program on crime prevention, targeted at youths and carried out in Secondary schools in Enugu State has been one of CAPIO proactive measures in the fight against crime. The rate of crime in Nigeria is quite alarming, with most criminal activities perpetrated by youths and as a result, there is a decay of values and norms in the society at large.
CAPIO sensitization Team under the project “Mobilization against Criminal Activities for Vulnerable Youths in Enugu State” with funding support from Misean Cara, has been visiting schools in the state. The visits which is across the six (6) Educational Zones (Obollor-Afor, Agbani, Nsukka, Awgu, Enugu and Udi zone) in Enugu State has been explosive as over 23,000 students have been reached through the sensitization program. On these visits, a whole gamut of topics that border on various social vices, their consequences and preventive measures are discussed.
The students as a way of ushering the Team into an interactive session, presents a drama depicting one of the topics ranging from cultism, peer pressure, rape, cyber-crime, bullying, teenage pregnancy, indecent dressing, drug-abuse etc. that is prevalent in their zone. The drama is a way of engaging the student and making sure they can relate with the experiences.
The “Youth Arise” manual, a product of the project alongside other Information, Communication and Education (ICE) material are given to the students. The manual which contains a wide range of topics is meant to stimulate, educate and improve student’s knowledge and skill to face life challenges.
In all 25 schools visited, the management and student welcomed and appreciated the sensitization initiative.
