CAPIO VOICE TEAM VISITS FEMALE SECTION OF MAXIMUM-SECURITY PRISON, ENUGU.
On the 16th April 2019, visit to assess the detention condition of the female section of Maximum-Security Prison, Enugu, was carried out by CAPIO VOICE TEAM led by Fr. Ambrose Ekeroku. During the visit, the women prisoners explained how terribly poor the environment is. For instance, the stench from the broken sewages, bedbug infested cells and inadequate supply of portable water. Despite the bad living condition, the inmates said the wardresses treated them like they were family.
CAPIO pledged to address some of the challenges by fumigating the cells, replacing the bedbug infested mattresses with new ones, a TV set and a satellite dish. To welcome the Team, the female prisoners presented a shaft drama and a dance. The Officer in Charge, Mrs. Vivian Eze expressed her appreciation to the Team. The visit ended with a presentation of the Gender Sensitive Manual to the DCP in Charge of the Maximum-Security Prison, Enugu, Mr. Ibrahim Usman who also pledged commitment to this project funded by Voice.
