NIGERIA’S OLDEST PRISONER REGAINS FREEDOM

The Executive Director of Carmelite Prisoners’ Interest Organisation (CAPIO), Rev. Fr. Ambrose Ekeroku, OCD has commended the immediate past governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha for granting amnesty to about 70 Convicts in the State serviing jail term in different prisons.

According to Fr Ekeroku, CAPIO in conjunction with other CSOs in Enugu made a strong case for the release of some of the death-row inmates from Imo State in Maximum Security Prison Enugu. He urged other State governors to utilize the power vested on them by the Prerogative of Mercy Laws in their respective States to free deserving and repentant inmates and give them second chance in life to contribute meaningfully to the society.
