Visit to Lagos – FIRC
Following the training of female inmates on the production of reusable female sanitary pads in Enugu and Lagos Custodial Centres, the trainings have been concluded in both States. Female inmates at the two Centres are being followed up as they independently produce reusable sanitary pads.
In line with the project activities, a workshop for female ex-inmates to learn how to produce reusable sanitary pads will be established in Enugu and Lagos state, in addition to the already existing workshop in Abuja. Through the workshop, female returned citizens (ex-inmates) who have interest in learning how to produce reusable sanitary pads, as well as, fashion design, will acquire the above skills. Business space has been rented, carpentry work is currently ongoing, while necessary equipment (sewing machine) and material for pad production have been bought.
In line with the above the Executive Director of CAPIO, Rev. Fr. Jude Isiguzo O.C.D. visited Lagos in July, while Rev. Fr. Philip Kusimo visited Lagos in September to validate information provided on FIRC project. Through support from CAPIO, Female Inmates and Returned Citizens (FIRC) access calls for bid for reusable sanitary pads, of which quotations were submitted. We look forward to sustained production through demand for reusable sanitary pads. The Centre of Hope will soon start admitting candidates who will be trained across various skills.
